Join Senior Curator of History, Zach Zacharias on the porch at Gamble Place in Port Orange to immerse yourself in the splendor and opulence of Florida's Gilded Age, a transformative period that saw the state rise from its post-Civil War doldrums to become a beacon of Victorian-era prosperity and progress. "The Gilded Age in Florida" is a captivating presentation that explores the dramatic changes that swept across the state during this time, as Florida shed its southern roots and culture and emerged as a thriving hub of industry, commerce, and tourism.

Railroads, steamboat travel, and mega-resorts paved the way for a booming tourism industry, attracting visitors from all over the country to experience the state's breathtaking natural beauty and warm climate. Major industries like cigar manufacturing, sponging, cattle driving, and phosphate mining also took hold during this period, contributing to Florida's growing prosperity and economic expansion.
