Summary:

As a part of the leadership team, the Director of Operations will develop and implement programming initiatives and strategies with the Education Department Managers as well as overseeing the Rentals and Guest Services departments. Duties will include leadership and collaboration creating a diverse slate of programming to foster audience engagement ensuring mission and goals are considered in strategy for annual programming revenue.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy/Leadership

  • Lead all program brainstorming sessions as they relate to exhibitions, collections, and other initiatives throughout the Museum.
  • Act as the bridge between the three departments, ensuring clear communication.
  • Provide structure, planning, coordination, guidance and follow up as it relates to final decision-making of programming plans and strategies.
  • Oversees implementation of the departmental annual budgets.
  • Collaborates with the Marketing Department to develop and implement long-range marketing plans for programs and events.
  • Collaborates with the Development Department to plan the Museum’s Annual Fundraiser and Annual Meeting.

 

Programming

  • Consider all ideas and develop a slate of programs that are diverse, unique and mission-focused.
  • Bring the Museum’s programming initiatives under one umbrella that focuses on guest experience, quality, connection, and organizational mission. 
  • Bridge the gap between the events with an emphasis on education to create meaningful, impactful experiences that provide educational content.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement adult programming related to the Museum’s mission, permanent collections, and changing exhibitions.

Rental Program

  • Oversee rental department and develop, evaluate, and execute new strategies to stay in line with best practices to meet financial goals.
  • Evaluate annual processes and procedures, contracts, vendors and policies as it relates to the rental program.

Supervision

  • Supervise full-time managers for Rental, Education and Guest Services Departments.
  • Conduct annual merit evaluations for direct reports.
  • Act as hiring manager for open positions in programming department.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in programming/ related field or specialized training in event management fields.
  • Team player who can be flexible and adapt to the needs of the museum.
  • Goal oriented, accountable, driven and takes initiative
  • Experience with project management skills, including creating and managing budgets.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging adult and youth audiences in a variety of learning experiences.
  • Ability to maintain comprehensive budgets and appropriately forecast both expenses and revenue.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills. Ability to assess priorities, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work well under pressure. Excellent time management skills, problem solving as well as analytical skills.
  • This position will require the employee to work some evenings, and/or weekends to fulfill the position’s objectives. Schedule adjustments are offered to allow the employee to maintain a 40hr work week as closely as possible.
