This certainly hasn't turned out to be the year we were all expecting, and definitely not the one we were planning. When our whole world changed and we had to close the Museum due to the threat of the COVID-19 virus we had a very different year planned for you all.
We adapted quickly, starting with closing the Museums to the public, not knowing when we would reopen. We began planning ways that we could still serve our community. We wanted to make sure we were there for everyone who needed educational and entertaining programs and activities while we all learned to live this new way of life.
Our programming moved online, and we began to post craft activities, gallery tours, share behind the scenes stories, night sky astronomy tours, backyard nature walks, and even asked you to bake along with us! In total, we posed over 200 videos that included activities and stories for children, all made available for free to families on our website and social media pages. Since we closed our doors on March 17th our online content has reached nearly 600,000 people of all ages.
Since reopening the Museum, we have continued to provide online content for free as we know not everyone feels comfortable visiting in person right now. We're also learning how to adapt knowing our attendance income will be significantly down, and we can't yet put on the programs and events, or host rentals like weddings and parties, that all provide vital income that we put back into providing free programming for our community.
We know these are difficult and uncertain times for everyone now, but if you're able to, we hope you will consider making a tax-deductible donation to our Summer Appeal and help us continue to provide the content that's become so important to so many people while our in-person programming remains limited.
By supporting the Museum of Arts & Sciences you can help us provide educational enrichment programs online and for free to the people who need us the most right now. Thank you for your continued support.
