Karshan Center of Graphic Art
Open September 30, 2017 through December 31, 2017
From the Reading Public Museum in Pennsylvania, this exhibition brings one of the most important Japanese woodblock print series to Daytona Beach. In feudal Japan, the shōguns traveled the Tokaido road from Edo (Tokyo) to Kyoto to pay homage to the Emperor and the stops along the way became popular spots. Utagawa Hiroshige's (1797-1858) series of prints are the most famous depictions of these "stations" and reflect a time long ago on the island of Japan.
